On January 12, 2010, a devastating earthquake hit Haiti, the poorest country in the Western hemisphere. The earthquake affected millions, further compromising the country's already weak water, sanitation, and health systems. Only 45% of Haiti's urban population has access to improved sanitation, 25% for people in rural areas, creating pressing public health risks, particularly among infants, children under five, and mothers.
The aim of this project is to increase resistance to disease and injury in four communal section of the South East department by increasing beneficiaries' capacities to improve health practices and seek solutions to public health problems. This project is a part of the on-going response to the 2010 earthquake.
The programme targets households, numbering almost 11,000, in Musac, Ternier, Gaillard, and Macary.
