East Sudan's largely rural populations are prey to contrasting disasters in floods and droughts, and also disease. Along with natural disasters and disease, the region is chronically impoverished, faces large influxes of refugees, and has inadequate access, healthcare, education, and proper water and sanitation. Here, particularly in the state of Kassala, diarrhoea is one of the leading causes of child mortality in this highly susceptible environment where child nutrition is below the national average.
This project reduces child mortality due to diarrhoea through building community resilience for diarrhoea by reducing risk.
The project's main target group is children under five years-old. However, individuals above five years-old will also benefit from services, supplies, and communications, totalling over 100,000 individuals.
