Drought campaign in Malawi, 2016

Project information

A minimum of 6.5 million people will not be able to meet their annual food requirements during the 2016/17 consumption period (from July 2016 to March 2017). The food shortage is largely a result of the El Nino climatic episode experienced across the country during the 2015/16 agricultural reason. The government have developed a food Insecurity Response Plan through the humanitarian cluster. The plan identifies food security, nutrition, agriculture, health, education and WASH. The Project seeks to ensure that disaster (dry spells) affected population’s food and nutrition needs will be met through a cash Transfer programme.
This project meets the drought affected population in Malawi. The project improves food access in the households and mitigates the consequences of the food shortages among targeted beneficiaries.

Beneficiaries of the project are 2,750 persons for a period of 5 months.
