In Ethiopia, consecutive failed rains in 2015 combined with erratic weather conditions attributed to El Niño, has resulted in severe food insecurity, especially in the north and north east areas of the country. Some 8.2 million people are in need of assistance across the country, and the number could reach as high as 15 million in 2016. This project is aiming at 35,371 benificiaries within a wider ERCS drought response, which targets a grand total of 185,674 beneficiaries.
This Emergency Appeal supports the Ethiopia National Red Cross Society (ERCS) to deliver assistance and support to 35,371 people, with a focus on health, water and sanitation, food security and livelihoods.
Humanitarian aid is provided to 35,371 people in Afar and Somali Regions. Food distribution is targeting children Under 5 years, as well as pregnant and breast feeding mothers.
