Tacloban and Palo are still recovering from the devastating typhoon Yolanda (International name: Haiyan) that hit the Philippines in November 2013. Even though the area has managed to bounce back to some degree, the coastal zone especially remains at risk of future storms and flooding.
The project aims to develop a locally supported and integrated long-term vision for a sustainable coastal protection plan in the Tacloban area.
Netherlands Red Cross has joined hands with a consortium of Dutch water engineer companies and other organisations. The aim of this consortium is to investigate a number of possible strategies for the area to reduce the risk of future disasters.
