Why?

Since March 2014, more than 1.2 million people have moved away from Luhansk and Donetsk regions to safer areas within Ukraine, 19,000 people moved out of Crimea and over 800,000 Ukrainians fled abroad, mainly into neighbouring Russia, Belarus and other countries. Most of the internally displaced people from eastern Ukraine are currently located within Donetsk and Luhansk regions or the neighbouring regions of Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporizhia. The humanitarian community estimates that 5 million people affected by the conflict are in need of humanitarian aid across Ukraine. Focus of the programme is on reconstruction of damaged houses and an Appeal to assist in health and care, water, sanitation and hygiene promotion, shelter and settlements, food security and nutrition for IDP’s.
