Why?
This action will support Sudanese Red Crescent Society (SRCS) to implement their preparedness and response plan for COVID-19 in Kassala and West Darfur Branches, Sudan. The overall goal of SRCS is to contribute to the response to the COVID 19 outbreak by preventing human-to-human transmission of the virus caring for those affected in Sudan. The world is facing an unprecedented situation with the onset of the COVID-19 epidemic. In the global south, which already has poor public health outcomes, the potential impact on communities is catastrophic. People in Sudan have limited knowledge of COVID-19 and misconceptions and false information are being shared widely, including through social media. Severe restrictions, such as a full lockdown of movement outside of the home is challenging in Sudan as the economy is reliant on daily workers. Although placing extensive limitation of movement may assist to prevent the spread of COVID-19, it will likely mean food insecurity for a large proportion of the population and other high risk scenarios and unhealthy coping mechanisms. Preparing and responding to COVID-19 epidemic is further complicated in Sudan due to a declining economic and unstable political situation in-country, including ongoing protests, a new government, lack of basic commodities such as fuel and bread and increasing inflation.
