Why?

The aim of the Red Cross Movement Covid19 Preparedness and Responds Project is to enable Malawi Red Cross Society (MRCS) being well prepared and ready to respond to Covid19 preventing the onset of the disease and contributing to control mechanisms to prevent spread of the disease at all levels in Malawi. Till this date there are 33 confirmed cases of which 22 in Lilongwe and with a total death toll of 3. This project will in high risk areas make use of scenario 2 such as Lilongwe and elsewhere scenario 1 with a scale up to level 3 when and if needed. 6 districts out of the 28 in total, including Lilongwe.

What?

The objective is to support the Red Cross Movement Covid19 Preparedness and Response Plan with funding channeled through the Danish Red Cross (DRC), who is leading the consortium. The project focuses on health; specifically on raising of awareness and enhancement of knowledge of key aspects of COVID-19 and equipping MRCS staff, volunteers and stakeholders. Furthermore, the sensitization and mobilization of at risk communities on prevention and control measures. In addition MRCS capacity is strengthened to support government infrastructure and services related to COVID-19.
