Why?
This IFRC Appeal provides assistence to 100.000 people living in the area of the 2016 earthquake in Ecuador. Assistance aims at health, shelter and the distrubution of basic needs and food. Also repairs of water supply are a priority. On april 16 an earthquake devestated several coastal communities. 113 people were rescued in an emergency situation and more than 25.000 stay in temporary shelters. Because of aftershocks many people dwell in the streets. During and direct after the eathquake more than 700 people lost their lives. Most people went for medical treatment to health centers in Jama, Matal, Quaque, Chorrera in Pedernales
What?
In several communities RCRC health centers provided healthcare to affected people. ICRC is distributing forensic kits and equipment to institutions responsible for dead body management. Also psychosocial support is offered to families in collective centres, refuges, host households and to humanitarian response teams to help them deal with emotional shock.
Who?
By 2 May, more than 3211 families had received humanitarian aid (approximately 16,055 people).
