This project supports Ethiopian Red Cross in offering basic services for south Sudanees refugees. In december 2013 violence in South Sudan creates a complex humanitarian crisis. In 2013-2014 more than 250,000 refugees fled from South Sudan to western Ethiopia. Most refugees stayed in different refugee camps in Gambella region. In 2015 IFRC launched an Emergency Appeal to offer general assistence. Assistentence of this Appeal ended in december 2015, after several extentions. Netherlands Red Cross and Swiss Red Cross decided to continue activities together with Ethiopian Red Cross. All activities are planned in Gambala Region.
First half of 2016 activities are funded by Swiss Red Cross Society. From July 2016 onwards, Netherlands Red Cross will finance activities (until December 2016).
The continuation of this project is a close collaboration with local goverments and UN. The project ables assistance in First aid and Ambulance service to 54,101 people.
