Why?
Numerous armed conflicts and other situations of violence are taking place throughout Yemen. Heavy fighting, often
involving shelling and air strikes, persists in many areas, particularly in the western governorates of Sa’ada and Taiz,
and in the capital city of Sana’a. Hostilities between a Saudi-led military coalition and the Houthis, which began in
March 2015, continue to intensify. The Al-Qaeda in the Arab Peninsula, the Islamic State group and other armed groups
are active in different parts of the country Allegations of IHL violations are widespread: thousands of civilians have been reported wounded or killed in the fighting,
and public infrastructure, including health facilities, has been indiscriminately targeted. western governorates of Sa’ada and Taiz,
