Why?
On 25 April 2015, a 7.9 magnitude earthquake hit Nepal, in an area between Kathmandu and Pokhara. Hundreds of aftershocks were registered. The government of Nepal declared a state of emergency on 27 April. On 12 May, a 7.3 magnitude earthquake hit 76 km northeast of Kathmandu, causing additional death, destruction of infrastructure and homes. 57 districts were affected, with 14 having severe damage.
