Why?

To contribute to the reduction of the morbidity and mortality due to the spread of Hepatitis E virus among the population at risk in five districts (Diffa centre, Bosso, Guigmi, Maina Soroa and Goudoumaria) of the Diffa region of Niger.
In 2017, the country is experiencing its first hepatitis E epidemic virus (HVE) outbreak recorded in the region of Diffa. As of June 29, 2017 the total number of suspected cumulative cases of hepatitis E is 1,096 of which 34 deaths. The trend analysis shows a gradual increase in cases This project targets people living in the districts of Bosso, Guigmi, Maina Soroa, Goudoumaria and Diffa centre.

What?

Activities planned to reduce the morbidity and morality due to hepatitis E include training volunteers in prevention and control, hygiene promotion and distribution of hygiene items, building and rehabilitating infrastructure, and training supervisors to support volunteers.

Who?

This project supports 112,000 people (16,000 households), located across the districts of Bosso, Guigmi, Maina Soroa, Goudoumaria and Diffa centre.
