Why?
This project is a bilateral initiative from German Red Cross Society to deploy two HR delegates. Europe has seen hundreds of thousands of migrants cross both its land and sea borders in 2015. Migrants arrive in Greece, Italy, and Hungary, with some 750,000 via the Mediterranean, the most commonly used route to Europe, facing dangerous journeys that have left more than 3,000 dead. There are many groups—Afghans, Eritreans, Kosovars, Iraqis, Albanians—fleeing different conflicts and abuses heading for Europe, but the continuing armed conflict in Syria is the leading cause for population movement. Between January and October 2015, there were almost 180,000 asylum applications from Syrians alone. Germany
