Why?

The overall objective of this project is that “ By 2021, maternal and neonatal mortality rate is reduced among 5,577 women of childbearing age in Koussane Commune.”

Pregnant women may die as a result of complications during and after pregnancy and/or after delivery. Most of these complications can be treated or even avoided. The most common complications causing 75% of maternal deaths are: – Heavy bleeding (especially after childbirth) – Infections (especially after delivery) – Arterial hypertension during pregnancy (preeclampsia and eclampsia) – Complications during childbirth – Unsafe abortions – Other complications are related to diseases such as malaria, diabetes, HIV, etc Koussané, Mali

Indirect beneficiaries:

o 25,350 population of Koussané (12,929 Women and 12,421 Men)

Direct beneficiaries: 11,613 persons of which:
o 5,577 Women of childbearing age (22% of the total population)
o 4,563 Children under 5 years (18% of the total population)
o 3,622 Families (Households)
o 280 Role Model Husbands from 28 villages
o 560 Women grouped into Mother Support Groups (maximum 20 Women in each village)
o 84 Women volunteers from the commune of Koussané (3 Women Volunteers per village)
o 20 Health staff of CSRéf de Kayes, CSCom de Koussané and Health Posts
o 60 Traditional Birth Attendants including some of the Traditional Healers from Koussané
o 28 Village Chiefs
o 15 Administrative authorities from ASACO Committee, Mayor Council, CSRéf, etc.
o 426 Vulnerable Families identified by the Service of Local Development of Kayes
