Why?

Response to refugee influx, coming from the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). The objective of the refugee shelter project is to reduce vulnerability due to a forecasted above normal rainfall in the Northern part of Zambia in the upcoming rainy season. Violence and repeated armed clashes in several provinces of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) are causing alarming levels of human suffering resulting in large scale displacement. As a result, there is currently an influx of about 4,000 refugees into Zambia, the number is increasing by the day. Stakeholders; UNHCR contingency plan predicts an increase of up to 20,000 people by the end of the year. ZRCS with support of IFRC / DREF, NLRC / DRU, UNHCR and UNICEF will cover an estimated 7000 people (35% coverage). Therefore, this fund is foreseen to be a top up on the available resources to cover up to 20,000 people. Zambia, the project will run in 6 border reception centres including the established longer-term settlement
