Supporting Syrian refugees and vulnerable host communities in Lebanon with emergency assistance

Vooruitgang: Implementation
Budget: € 1040000
Looptijd: 2018-11-30 - 2019-12-30

Why?

Since the start of the war in Syria, Lebanon has been receiving significant numbers of refugees. As the Syria crisis moves into its seventh year, many Syrian refugees in Lebanon are still unable to access crucial basic survival needs including medical care, food, shelter etc. This is mainly due to severe shortfall in international support that is keeping Lebanon overburdened and under resourced to adequately respond to the crisis. The vast majority of the refugees (more than 80%) live dispersed among communities by renting flats, whereas an estimated 15% of the refugees have set up informal (tented) settlements (ITS)3. The resources are dwindling and families are unable to meet their basic needs. 70% of the households are now living below the poverty line of 3.84 USD per person per day, and their need for assistance is constantly increasing day after day. According to a report released by the UN Refugee Agency, people are pushed to incorporate negative coping mechanisms in order to provide basic needs for their families(like reducing adult food intake in order to provide more food for children, child marriage, selling in-king assistance in order to pay health care services. 976,002 (222,412 households).2
