Why?

This project is to provide a sustainable water supply to flood resettlement areas and vulnerable communities by increasing the resilience of the river catchment, water distribution network and the communities themselves to heavy rainfall, flooding and power outage events. This greater resilience will have a major impact on achieving the long-term objectives and purposes of the FDW programme, including: Poverty alleviation and improved well-being/health; via reduced flood victims, provision of safe water and WASH practices to 40,000 vulnerable people, continuous city water supply during disasters and reduction in water borne / poor sanitation diseases Enhanced self-reliance; via capacity building of COWD to improve operational and financial sustainability, future proofing the water distribution system, training and equipping vulnerable communities on disaster response, and enabling gender transformation Continuing economic growth; via 24/7 supply of safe and reliable water to CDO city with reduced flood disruption to businesses, generating sustainable employment to IPs, and increased income generation of CDO population due to reduction of water-borne disease
