Why?
The floods in Dar es Salaam have caused displacement, injuries, the death of two children, destruction of water &
sanitation facilities as well as livelihood assets and increased prevalence and risks of vector transmitted, and water
borne diseases. As a direct effect of the ongoing floods, a total number of 21 confirmed Cholera cases were reported
by 20th May, with an additional 7 new cases reported between 20th and 22nd of May. One person has died from Cholera
on May 22nd. As of 22nd May 2019, a total of 23 new confirmed Cholera cases were reported from Dar es Salaam This DREF operation will provide assistance to the 500 most vulnerable households (2,500 people) who require urgent
humanitarian assistance following the floods in Dar es Salaam. The targeted households will be supported with HH
items , WASH and Health interventions. Further needs assessments will be conducted and might lead to this operation
being adjusted based on new findings and depending on if/how the rains will continue over the coming weeks. Dar es Salaam – Tanzania
