Why?
Ecosystem-based DRR in Fafan region, Ethiopia
– Soil moisture conservation
– Rehabilitation of water resources

– Increase vegetation coverage (for pastoralist communities)
– Construction of check dams, construction of cut off drains, retaining walls
The project focuses on reducing the vulnerability of communities to drought and flood risks, which are the two most important natural hazards affecting the lives and livelihoods in the project area. Areas where PfR and Cronic Crises project are being implemented
– Dawa and Liben Zones of the Somali Region (comprising 6 districts: Dheka, Suftu, Dolo Ado, Filtu, Hudet, Moyale and Mubarek)
– Fafan Zone of the same region (comprising 3 districts: Gursum, Jijiga and Tulli Guled)
These areas are drought prone and resilience building intervention based on Eco-DRR can potentially bring large added value to the communities.
What?
– Building capacities for communities and sector stakeholders in order to enable Eco-DRR interventions
– Through participatory, open and respectful dialogue process with communities and sector stakeholders
– Implementation of activities that improve the natural resources-based management
– Increase productivity land for pastoralist communities will decrease shortages caused by droughts
Who?
Communities of the target area, with a particular focus on the condition of:
– Female households
– Youth
– Women
– Households and community groups having land and water resources that require rehabilitation and management.
