Committees
The Red Cross Student Desk Groningen constists of 8 committees, of which four are international!
1. Youth First Aid committee (Dutch speaking committee)
This committee consists of students who would like to organize first aid lessons for the youth between 11 and 17 years old. Every once in two weeks, lessons are organized. The students teach the youth how to handle in emergency situations: What do you do if someone gets a third-degree burn? Together with your fellow students you will provide the youth will usefull information in a playfull way. The committee members will also follow a first aid course and will receive an official European certificate themselves. The committee will start in September and has a duration of one year.
Jeugd EHBO
2. Refugee Support Committee (International committee)
This is a new committee that is also one of the three international committees of our desk. The aim is to organize projects for refugees to give them social support. In this way you can help them on their way in society. Examples of projects you can think of are walking with refugees, Dutch lessons or a project in which you help them to get in touch with their family. As a committee, you have every freedom to brainstorm about ideas and to organize projects. The committee will start in September and in February (duration of six months).
3. Awareness Committee (International committee)
This is a new committee that is also one of the three international committees of our desk. The aim is to make students aware of the problems in developing countries. You can think of conflicts, the impact of natural disasters such as tsunamis or earthquakes, or diseases, etc. As a committee you will do this by organizing projects, lectures or, for example, to raise money for a self-chosen problem. You are free to choose the problem you think is important to raise awareness for. The committee will start in September and has a duration of one year.
4. Serious Request (International committee)
The Serious Request committee consists of enthusiastic students who want to raise money for Serious Request 3FM. The aim is to organize activities to raise as much money as possible. Previous committees have organized activities such as a gala, bowlingnight, pubquiz, bingo etc. You are free to come up with different ideas for the activities. Together with your committee you will hand over the cheque at the location of the Serious Request House itself. The theme of this year is still unknown. However, as soon as this will be announced you can start promoting. The committee will start in October and will finish at the end of December.
5. Sinterklaas Bestaat (Dutch speaking committee)
The Sinterklaas Bestaat!-committee organizes a Sinterklaas party for children who’s parents receive help from the foodbank (and thus have only little to spend). The committee is free to choose the activity they find suitable for this day. You have to think of ideas to raise money for this activity, e.g. a drink or a fundraising were organized by previous committees. The committee will start in October and the activity will take place in the end of November, beginning of December.
6. You Are Beautiful (YAB, Dutch speaking committee)
The You Are Beautiful committee organizes an activity for a self-chosen vulnerable group to brighten their day and make them feel noticed. As a committee you have every freedom to brainstorm about ideas and to organize projects. You have to think of ideas to raise money for this activity, e.g. a pubquiz or a fundraising were organized by previous committees. The committee starts in January and has a duration of six months.
7. Positive Images (PI, international committee)
Positive Images is a project aimed at bringing young people into contact with positive images of (vulnerable) groups. By thinking about the imaging and stereotyping of vulnerable groups and by creating the positive images themselves, young people will start to think more positively about vulnerable groups in their environment. The positive Images committee provides lectures at high schools to help a vulnerable group get a positive light. This committee will start in January and has a duration of six months.
8. How do I survive the first year of high school? (HOB, Dutch speaking committee)
This committee supports children who’s parents receive help from the foodbank (and thus have little to spend) to be well prepared for their first year of high school. Examples of support are to provide them of stuff for school, e.g. notebooks, a backpack, pencils, or a schooldiary. The is free to choose the stuff they think is important to have as a new high school student. You have to think of ideas to raise money for this activity, e.g. a fundraising was organized by previous committees. The committee starts in May and has a duration of six months.
Hoe overleef ik de brugklas? (HOB)
